Here's to an egg-cellent Easter! 03/13/2010
Poster designed by afrostdesigns.com This Wordle was produced using the software at http://www.wordle.net/. On 5th February we have a meeting at 2.00 pm. - all members - and we may let the staff and volunteers come too! If they are good that is. David W from Social Spider is coming along. He delivers training on Citizen Journalism, and Newsletter and Magazine Production. 'This training is affordable, practical, laid back and develops essential media skills. It gives people the confidence they need to get their messages and experiences into the open.' It is especially accessible to people who have mental health difficulties, so this is of great interest to us at Enfield Clubhouse. We have the opportunity (funds permitting) to have this sort of training held here for us at Clubhouse. How amazing is that?! So if you are a member of Clubhouse, come along to find out about this opportunity and help to decide what we want to do together. Do we want to use this training to launch a member produced newsletter, or maybe we want to produce a publication of our artwork, poems, designs etc, or maybe we want to have a member written blog, or maybe we want to be able to write articles on things we feel strongly about, or maybe we have other ideas that we want to explore! Happy Holidays! 12/16/2009

Pick & Mix ... 08/14/2009
![]() A group of members and volunteers recently visited Parkside Farm, Hadley Road which is approximately 15 minutes walk from Chase Farm Hospital. ![]() The farm is set amidst the beautiful rolling countryside just north of Enfield and is one of a number in the area where people can pick their own fruit and veg. It's a popular place for families to visit. Between us we picked courgettes, french beans, spinach, strawberries, raspberries and blackcurrants. ![]() The minimum amount people have to pay is £1.50 for the fruit or veg. they pick, but obviously they can pick as much as they want. After the fruits of our labours we had our lunch, and resisted the temptation of buying ice cream, Jersey cream, meringues, home-produced honey, and hot and cold drinks which were for sale at the farm. It was certainly an interesting experience picking and choosing what would eventually end up on your dinner plate. Summer BBQ 2009 feedback ... 07/22/2009
Thanks to all those who attended our very first fund-raising Summer BBQ. Despite the rain, everyone enjoyed the afternoon consuming excellent food & drinks and enjoying live music. ![]() We were honoured to have a visit from the Mayor of Enfield ![]() John, one of the members entertained us with his renditions of Bob Dylan and Beatles songs with the aid of his guitar. Special thanks goes to all members for participating in this fund-raising event, especially Diane's brother Michael (who was on holiday from New Zealand) who helped with the BBQ. With the entrance fees, car raffle, and other fun events such as tombola and hoopla we raised just over £100 for the clubhouse. Thanks again to everyone who attended and we hope to see you again next year. A group of staff, members and volunteers were recently invited by the MP for Enfield Joan Ryan to a tour of the Houses of Parliament. It is the seat of the two houses (the House of Lords and the House of Commons). ![]() On our way to St.James Park for a spot of lunch we knocked on the door of Her Majesty's residence Buckingham Palace but we were met by a police attache with machine guns! Lunch break - St.James Park![]() After lunch we walked past Westminster Abbey. ![]() Before starting our official tour we had the opportunity to see the "Parliament Past and Present" Exhibition housed in the Jewel Tower opposite the Palace which was accessed by a very narrow spiral staircase. ![]() Finally, here we are outside the entrance of the Palace of Westminster eagerly awaiting our guided tour. Before we were allowed to enter the Palace we had to endure a 'airport' like security check, where we had to place all items in our pockets in a metal tray which was passed through a x-ray scanner machine and we also had to pass throuch a special x-ray scanner door. Luckily we all passed without any unusual bleeps! We were shown around the Palace by a very charming lady Elizabeth Johnson who gave a very informative and enlightening guided tour which took in both the House of Lords and House of Commons. From this point we were not allowed to take any photos or videos inside the Palace. We would like to take this opportunity to thank our member Diane for organising this trip. A Vine Time Had By All... 06/08/2009
Yes, a fine time was had by all, and vines have been planted too! ![]() Our volunteers planted an amazing 100 vines. Only three years to wait before we can enjoy the fruits of their labours! That is when the first white wine is scheduled to be available from these vines. On the first day of planting we reckon there were about twenty students from Capel Manor, along with six volunteers from the Faith Garden Project and three from Clubhouse. They even featured on the BBC Regional News that evening. ![]() The general consensus from our three was that it was VERY HARD, back-breaking work! Despite this two of the three returned for a second day of punishment, along with two others from Clubhouse! So, what was the attraction of this very hard work. Well, the comments include:
![]() Some of our volunteers, and they are still smiling! Well done to all those who took part in the planting! |
