This afternoon we had the pleasure of Rashid and Emmanuel, two pupils from Turin Grove School in Edmonton, visiting us.  They wanted to know more about the goings on at Enfield Clubhouse to present their findings as part of their Youth and Philanthropy Initiative (YPI) school project.

"The Youth and Philanthropy Initiative (YPI) is an international programme designed to develop community leaders of the future and to raise awareness of the work of grassroots charities.

"Pupils are given a hands-on experience of philanthropy that highlights the positive impact they can have on their communities and provides them with the tools to lead."

After sharing lunch with us, Rashid and Emmanuel had a tour of the house learning about all the different things we do in the kitchen, house and garden, office and IT, community work and social activities.

Vedaste even showed them how to load our dishwasher!

Then we had a chat on the sofas and comfy chairs about how the organisation works - our aims and achievements, fundraising activities and "good news" stories. (If you're interested in these, you can take a look at our Annual Reports.)

We wish Rashid and Emmanuel good luck with their presentation to their classmates and hope that theirs will be considered the best one! (If you visit the link to the YPI you will know why!!!)

Whatever the outcome it was good to meet two new friends of the Clubhouse and we feel sure they will go on to better things themselves in the future.

On Friday afternoon at Clubhouse, a group of us were discussing what it means to recover from mental illness. We agreed that recovery could mean different things to different people.

Peter Ashenden, a US mental health advocate, gives a powerful talk on the mental health system and what it really means to recover your mental health.

A big thank you to everyone who made our Summer BBQ such a special occasion. As well as a perfect Summer day to relax in our beautiful garden, it was a great opportunity for people to sample the buffet menu provided by our new Catering Service.

We had over sixty friends, neighbours and supporters attend and the Catering team headed up by Gunsel Fevzi worked miracles to keep everyone fed and happy! The food was washed down with jugs of Pimm's and the odd glass of Rose with plenty of fruity and non-alcoholic alternatives, too.

We had lots of great comments about our burgers, especially  the  BBQ sauce, which was made by one of our members.

Special thanks go to our BBQ Chefs for this event, Andy and Chris, and Raheem for organising the raffle, which raised over £70 to help cover some of the costs for food and drinks.

Although the official Depression Awareness Week was last week, this video highlights the ongoing misery faced by sufferers every week and the importance of having support and a decent quality of life in order to cope and recover.

Just what is it that makes members and staff look forward to lunch time at Enfield Clubhouse?  Maybe these photos can explain...

My name is Andy Frost, I live in Enfield and I have been attending Enfield Clubhouse for about 2 and a half years now. Before that, I spent 2 years at Richmond Fellowship  learning all aspects of Graphic Design, using Adobe Photoshop and QuarkXpress.  After passing an exam, I was then awarded a CLAIT certficate in Image Creation. Since coming to Enfield Clubhouse, I have found the staff to be very helpful and I have received lots of support with the creation of my website www.afrostdesigns.com, where you can see a small selection of my work.
